| I don't know if anyone cares about this, but I figured I'd pass it along in case someone else has it happen on a different type of vehicle. Last weekend or whenever it was that we had all snow, I had cleared my truck off. Next day it rained. Next morning after that I went to use the wipers and the pass. side was frozen to the glass...my driver's wiper went all the way up and the pass. side didn't even move. This apparently stripped the splines in the arm, the thing actually went up when I used the washer, but it kept going and hit the driver's side wiper...haha.   Realized that the shaft is steel, and the socket part of the wiper arm is potmetal or cast aluminum or something. When the arms are installed, the shaft cuts splines into the softer metal of the arm. I took a metal pick and scraped/cleaned the metal and crud out of the splines on the shaft, then took the old arm and placed it where I wanted it, it grabbed immediately, so I threw a washer under where the nut goes on, and torqued it down. It seems good now, but I don't want to test it too much by trying to move the wiper. I'll wait and see how it lasts for now. I'm not even sure I needed the washer but I figured the cut splines being ripped out of the arm socket would have technically made the opening bigger, therefore putting a washer on top of the arm would help the nut push the
arm back down on the splines a little better and assist with cutting them deeper.    If this doesn't last I will get the pre-2003 arms I guess (they actually fold up like the GMT400 trucks, and the GMT900 ones...ha). I think you can get a Dorman knockoff version of them pretty cheap. | | | | | | 95brmw

It's actually kinda funny because when I read what you wrote I saw right thru it thought that too.
Guess its because we havent met. Must be my mistake. Anyway...just walked out on the floor but no arms here. So, sockets on each side of the cast aluminum, positioned on a solid surface. Hammer repeatedly in civilized fashion, taking advantage of the ductility of aluminum. The top hole diameter shrinks slightly & will engave on the splined cone. No....this wont work if you've stripped the bejeezus out of the arm. _________________

and at first i thought you were just being a dick as usual might have misunderstood the reason for my question
I now understand what you do with the arm to tighten it up, i wondered if it would work with stripped splines, thinking that maybe it was possible to shrink the cone enough that it would make new splines in the soft aluminum? i wasn't sure so i asked,
As for not meeting me i think you,ve had that option and didn't exercise it,. You might try my repair method with stripped arms, i put the arm into the vise and make some gouge lines parallel to the splines on the drive , then wrap the drive with tin foil as tightly as i can by hand, and then tighten the arm down, i,ve had to do it twice on badly worn arms, but the tin foil will mold under pressureand as long as there is somewhere for it to go into on the arm it will hold on,. Of course, leaving the wipers on in the garage with a dry windsheild to test this repair is not recommended,. thanks Nick | | | | | | No Moa
